Commercial
Websites
Cathal has developed a number of websites throughout his career. Over time, he has built up a flexible template that allows him to develop new MySQL/Perl based sites with ease. Although not a graphic artist by trade, Cathal has developed a moderate expertise in powerful publishing tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Jasc Paint Shop Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe ImageReady and Adobe Go Live. This allows him to sucessfully take a corporate branding or logo, and turn it into a website.
Cathal has also developed secure shopping cart scripts to be incorporated in that framework, allowing users of the templates to easily offer e-commerce facilities. Cathal makes particular effort to ensure websites he develops adhere to markup and accessibility standards, while trying to be visually equal across different browsers on different platforms.
Bespoke Software
From VB to PERL, Cathal has also been involved in a number of bespoke software projects. These projects include a network caller id PERL script which allows caller ID of incoming another to be displayed on an intranet page, and have certain numbers trigger actions. Software projects developed in VB includes remote DB admin, an pub-entertainment results display for large screen displays, and various intranet utilities.
Previous Employments
Before becoming a contractor, Cathal was previously employed by Avatar Works, where as a Software Engineer, he worked with ObjectiveC, PERL, HTML and Javascript on a Mac OS X based workflow server. In WBT Systems, Cathal, again as a software engineer, worked on their C++ based e-learning server HCI and UI review, implementing a customisable interface for the web application server. Cathal also spent some time on making the server comply with accessibility guidelines, and also worked on integration with other e-learning products.
