Third level project supervision
Cathal has worked as an external supervisor to DIT final year projects, for the last number of years. This involves working with students to help and encourage them to complete their final year projects. It also involves assessment of their efforts at various stages of the project.
Other
Final year projects which Cathal completed include an ASP/Microsoft SQL Server based hotel reservations system that connected to external (individual) hotel databases via ODBC using templates and directly queried/reserved. Later, Cathal wrote a full implementation of a passive Round Robin DNS Server which had a web administration interface to configure the round-robin domains to be served, and the DNS servers to pass all other requests to. It was written fully in Java.
Also, Cathal was involved in the DIT Links program which was involved in redistributing end-of-life PCs to underprivileged Dublin inner city schools, and to provide technical support and training to those schools. He is also involved in IT strategy and support for a few other schools.
