Ireland is not expensive. Ignore anything we’ve said previously.

Jun 8th, 2005   7:53 pm

Maybe I’m missing something here, but TCM are reporting about Labhras O Murchu’s claims that we’re not comparing like with like. To use his example, compare 5-star hotels between here and other EU countries. Then go ahead and compare insurance prices (all types of insurance). Take in labour costs (again like with like), fuel costs, and all the other various contributors to the high cost of the Irish hospitality industry. Clearly Labhras is just mouthing off for attention, as I can’t see any aspect of hospitality costings that compare favourable with the EU. Insurance is the big one. Should we just ignore that so that we can compare favourably with other countries?

Garda Road Safety Campaign a Success, apparently

Jun 7th, 2005   1:26 pm

So An Gardaí are claiming a successful campaign at the weekend, comparing this year’s 1 death to last year’s 5 deaths. There is an undoubted good news story in that comparison, but was this down to the guards? I drove around 350 miles over the bank holiday weekend at various times, on national primary, national secondary and local roads, in rural and urban areas and only managed to come across one guard who didn’t look to be doing anything productive (in Roscrea).

BMI launches new Irish focussed web site…

Apr 11th, 2005   11:52 am

… but it fails to work!

TCM cover the story here. Esentially, BMI have sent out a release saying they’ve launched self checkin services and a new Irish focussed website. However, they don’t appear to have bothered to register www.bmi.ie, and when you try and book you’re greeted with an error. Even worse, the error you’re greeted with (400) suggests that it’s your fault, when it has actually been caused by a 500 (their fault) previous to the error you’re greeted with. Nice!

But, the self-checkin has to be welcomed!!
